FCA Cherokee Hosting ‘UGA Night of Champions’ with Ben Watson, Sedrick Van Pran, Malaki Starks and Mark Richt

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Cherokee, a local chapter of the international non-profit Christian sports ministry, is excited to host “UGA Night of Champions.” Held at First Baptist Church Woodstock, 11905 Highway 92, Woodstock, the event is on Friday, July 7 at 7pm. Tickets are free courtesy of generous sponsors; however, individual donations will be accepted at the event. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the non-profit’s year-long activities.

The UGA Night of Champions event is open for the entire Atlanta community to hear the inspirational talk from three current and former Georgia Bulldog football stars including:

  • Ben Watson – Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots; played tight end at UGA.
  • Sedrick Van Pran – Two-time NCAA Champion with UGA; preseason list of nation’s top centers.
  • Malaki Starks – NCAA Champion with UGA; the safety was named a True Freshman All American.

In addition, former Bulldog Head Coach Mark Richt will be a featured speaker and present the Cherokee FCA Coach of the Year Award, which is named after him.

“Our goal is to encourage every athlete and coach to enter into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and his church,” said Steve Hyland, FCA Cherokee Area Director. “All of these men know what it means to be a champion on the playing field, as well as what it takes to be one off the field. We believe that football heroes can be a great way to communicate with young people and look forward to hearing them share their message of hope and faith.”

Some of the event’s early sponsors include Tutton Group, State Farm and Chick-fil-A. There are still opportunities for others to support this event, as well as meet and be photographed with Watson, Van Pran, Starks and Richt during a private pre-event dinner.

When the event doors open at 6pm, there will be a silent auction with opportunities to win signed memorabilia from all three players and others, as well as tables set up with local businesses.
