Freddie Freeman Signs with the Los Angeles Dodgers

After 12 years as an Atlanta Brave, Freddie Freeman is now a Los Angeles Dodger.

Freeman signed a 6 year, $162 contract to bolster a roster that was already highly regarded roster.

In 2021 the former MVP posted a .300 batting average with 31 homers and 83 RBI.

The contract he signed is for 6 years but $57 million of that money is going to be deferred and will be paid out from 2028 through 2040.

Freeman wasn’t so happy about his departure from the Braves. He stated that the move Atlanta made to bring in Matt Olson to replace him “blindsided” him.

Talks between him and the team broke down over the past year and the lockout didn’t help things much.

According to reports the Braves offered Freeman before the lockout a long term deal for 5 years $140 million. The fist baseman’s camp reportedly gave the Braves 2 options and gave them a time limit to respond.

They proposed a 5 year deal for $165 million and a 6 year deal for $175 million. Obviously this was too much for Atlanta to commit to for a guy already a few years into his 30s.

The break down really centered around that 6th year and ended up causing the Braves to let Freeman walk and go another route.

Freeman joins 2 other former MVPs in Cody Bellinger and Mookie Betts. This makes LA a favorite in the eyes of some MLB pundits. The Braves are no slouch themselves after a flurry of moves by Alex Anthopoulos.

I think it’s easy to foresee this being the NLCS matchup and given the storylines behind it, I cant wait.
