NBA Great Steve Smith Talks the Upcoming 2023-24 NBA Season, the 2023-24 Atlanta Hawks, Building Wealth & More

On Monday October 16th, Earvin “Magic” Johnson hosted a VIP reception celebrating the reintroduction of Atlanta Life Insurance Company, the lone remaining Black-founded and owned life insurance company. Johnson’s EquiTrust Life Insurance Company has entered into an agreement with the company, which was recently acquired by Atlanta Life Holdings.

The moves are part of an effort to build upon the legacy and mission of a company with more than 100 years of history in providing financial security and protection for underrepresented and underserved communities. Originally founded by Alonzo Herndon, a former enslaved man and savvy entrepreneur who became Atlanta’s first Black millionaire, the company has protected many at-risk citizens while advancing social and economic equity for all.

During the event, some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment joined Magic Johnson to celebrate the reintroduction of Atlanta Life Insurance Company. 

While walking the Atlanta Life Insurance blue carpet, TheseUrbanTimes Terrell Thomas caught up with NBA great/ former Atlanta Hawks star Steve Smith. Steve Smith spoke on the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season, building wealth in the African-American community, his thoughts on the 2023-24 Atlanta Hawks and more.
