Scott Rolen Elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame

Scott Rolen, who spent the first six-plus years of his 17-year career in Philadelphia, is heading to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the sole member of the Class of 2023 elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, with 76.3 percent of the vote.

Rolen will join first baseman Fred McGriff for this year’s induction ceremonies, to be held on July 23 in Cooperstown, N.Y., after McGriff’s selection in December by the Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee.

Rolen will become just the 18th third baseman in the Hall – still the lowest total of any fielding position. He won eight Gold Glove Awards — the fourth most all time among third basemen behind Brooks Robinson (16), Mike Schmidt (10) and Nolan Arenado (10). He was also one of only 35 players with at least 2,000 hits, 300 homers and 500 doubles.
