All Star Slugger Matt Olson Traded to Braves

The Atlanta Braves have finalized a trade for their replacement for former MVP Freddie Freeman.

Matt Olson will be coming back to his hometown from the Oakland A’s in return for a huge package from the Braves.

Atlanta will send their top 2 prospects in Cristian Pache and Shae Langeliers, along with SPs Ryan Cusick and Joey Estes.

Olson, who is turning 28 this month, is coming off a career year where he posted a .271 batting average, 111 RBI and 39 home runs. The Braves will have 2 years or arbitration with Olson so he will be a far cheaper option than Freeman would have been. The key will be if he can replicate his production from last year.

Freeman has yet to make his decision publicly but we do know he won’t be returning to Atlanta.

This move will also hopefully open up room for Atlanta to possibly re-sign one of their impact players (Eddie Rosario, Jorge Soler) from last year’s team that were assumed to be too expensive.
