Elle Duncan Talks Honoring Black Women in Sports, Atlanta’s Sports Culture, Motherhood, Shares Advice For Up & Coming Journalists & More

On Friday December 16th, ESSENCE hosted the ‘ESSENCE Black Women in Sports Awards Brunch’ as part of the Celebration Bowl at the Westside Cultural Arts Center in Atlanta. 

Hosted by ESPN anchor Elle Duncan, The ESSENCE Black Women in Sports Awards Brunch was in partnership with Coca-Cola to spotlight and honor leading women in the sports industry, both professional and collegiate. 

During the event, Sanya Richards-Ross (former Jamaican-American track & field athlete who’s a two-time Olympic champion and two-time Olympic medalist), Sonja Stills (the first female commissioner in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the first female commissioner of a Division I HBCU Conference) and the Delaware State University Lacrosse Team (who overcame adversity as a result of the aftermath due to their recent unjust traffic stop in Georgia) were all honored.

Following the award ceremonies, TUT’s Terrell Thomas caught up with ESPN sports anchor Elle Duncan to discuss the importance of the ‘ESSENCE Black Women in Sports Awards Brunch’ and more. 

As a native of Atlanta, Elle Duncan spoke with Terrell Thomas about the growth she has seen over the years in the Atlanta sports and entertainment scene, the impact of honoring Black Women in sports, how Motherhood has influenced her career and much more.
