Washington’s NFL Team Will Retire The “Redskins” Name & Logo

Finally! After years and years of back and fourth over a possible naming change, the day is here. The Washington “Redskins” as we know them will be no more.

Washington’s pro football team made an announcement this morning that they will retire the “Redskins” name and logo.

Over the past few weeks, pressure as applied to Washington owner Dan Synder by FedEx, Amazon, Target and Nike to change the team. Both Nike and Target removes all “Redskins” team items (hats, shirts, cups, banners) from their stores and their online stores.

The team has been named the Washington Redskins since 1933 but for years Native American groups have spoke out on the name being a racial slur.

Dan Synder didn’t set a timetable to when the name would come but a name and logo are currently being developed. Although I have not been able to confirm, I’ve heard they could be going with the name “Washington Redwolves” in the future.
