Legendary Coach John Thompson Has Died at 78

Today is a sad day in the world of Basketball and for the Black community across the globe. News broke early this morning that legendary Georgetown head coach John Thompson has passed away at the age of 78.

John Thompson has the first African-American head coach to win a NCAA national title, but that wasn’t his greatest victory. John Thompson had a coaching record of (596-239) and 97 percent of his players at Georgetown stayed all four years and left school with a college degree.

John Thompson coached some of the best college and NBA talent helping Allen Iverson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo and others reach their ultimate goal of playing professional basketball.

John Thompson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. May John “Big John” Thompson rest in peace. John Thompson will be remembers via his children John Thompson III, Ronny Thompson, and daughter Tiffany Thompson.
