The Brooklyn Nets Hold Off the Hawks in OT (132-128)

Tonight, the Atlanta Hawks played their second game of a homestand back to back as they welcomed Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, James Harden and the Brooklyn Nets to town.

The Hawks offensively have been playing phenomenal basketball and seemed to be getting healthy at the right time.

Wednesday’s primetime matchup vs. the Nets was the test the Hawks needed as they continue to find their rhythm and learn each other’s game. The first half of the Nets vs. Hawks matchup was an offensive shootout. Both teams were rolling, scoring the basketball ball.

In the first half, Hawks sophomore Cam Reddish put up 14 points and played great defense on Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Brooklyn Nets star James Harden was quiet in the first quarter scoring 2 points, but he exploded in the second quarter to score 16 points finishing the half with 18 points.

At halftime, both teams were tied at (55-55).

In the third quarter, both teams continued scoring at a high clip. The Hawks got on the board first with a basket from John Collins. The Hawks jumped out to a small lead and continued to push and control the tempo in the third quarter. Heading to the fourth quarter, the Hawks led the Nets (87-83).

Both teams took their scoring momentum into the fourth quarter and after a missed three pointer to possibly win the game, the Hawks and Nets were tied (116-116) at the end of regulation and headed to overtime.

The Nets came out strong in overtime and never looked back. The Hawks made a run late to give the Nets a scare but two offensive rebounds but the Nets late down the stretch gave Brooklyn the two extra possessions they needed to win the game (132-128).

For the Nets, KD, James Harden and Kyrie all scored 20 points or more. Kevin Durant finished the night with 32 points. James Harden finished the night with 31 points, 15 assists and 8 rebounds. Kyrie Irving added 26 points and 7 assists.

For the Hawks, Trae Young kept the Hawks in it in the second half. Trae finished the night with 28 points and 14 assists. Cam Reddish added 24 points and he was aggressive all evening long. De’Andre Hunter and John Collins both added 21 points.

The Atlanta Hawks are now (9-9). The Brooklyn Nets are now (12-8).

The Hawks are back in action on Friday night, January 29th as they host the Washington Wizards.
