Chingy Talks the Success of “Right Thurr”, ‘Crown Jewel’, Song Writing vs. Battle Rap & More (Video)

Hip-Hop star/ St. Louis native Chingy is no stranger to fame and stardom.

The former DTP rap star was a radio killer from 2002-2005 and he is ready to return to charts with his upcoming project ‘Crown Jewel’.

Recently, These Urban Times own Terrell Thomas sat down with Chingy to catch up on what he has been working on. We started at the beginning of Chingy’s music journey. Chingy shared with us that he started rapping and writing songs early in life and a few inspirations in his life.

“I started writing my own music in 96, I was 6 years old” – Chingy

Chingy took the Hip-Hop scene by storm in 2002 with his hit singles “Right Thurr”, “Holidae Inn” and “One Call Away”. We discussed Chingy’s time on top of the charts and what it took to maintain success in music. “I wrote the hook and first verse to “Right Thurr” in 1996″ – Chingy 2020 is set to be a big year for Chingy.

After not releasing a full length project in over 13 years, Chingy is gearing up for the release of his upcoming project ‘Crown Jewel’. Chingy explained how ‘Crown Jewel’ will be one of his best projects to date.

“Crown Jewel” is basically mental stimulation…I’m tryna teach people something” – Chingy.

Before concluding the interview, Chingy spoke on the difference between writing a hit song vs. being a battle rapper, he spoke on his Disney Radio hit, he spit a verse he wrote when he was 9 years old and he explained how Yoga has helped him grow mentality over the past few years.
