Two-Time Australian Olympian Returns to the Storm
The Seattle Storm announced today that forward Stephanie Talbot has re-signed with the franchise. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Steph perfectly fits our culture and we are excited to have her back,” said Noelle Quinn, Storm Head Coach. “Her energy is contagious and her ability to stretch the floor with her three-point shooting is critical for how we like to play. Steph has played at a high level in the WNBL and it’s clear that growth and confidence has translated over into the WNBA.”
Talbot joined the Storm after her rights were traded to Seattle prior to the start of the 2021 season. She appeared in 30 games, making nine starts for the Storm in 2021, and finished the season as the only player in the WNBA with at least 65 three-point attempts to shoot over 48% from the floor and over 41% from three-point range. She averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. The four-year WNBA vet has spent two seasons with Phoenix and one with Minnesota prior to joining the Storm.
“I am super excited to stay in Seattle with such a great organization,” said Talbot. “I can’t wait to play at Climate Pledge Arena and compete for a championship with a great group of girls.”
Talbot represented Australia in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics last summer, playing for the Opals at the Olympics for the second time. She did not play in the WNBA during the 2020 season, playing in the WNBL, earning MVP honors with the Adelaide Lightning after averaging 18.2 points 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
“Steph was a great addition to the Storm last season with her consistent energy and strong work ethic,” said Talisa Rhea, Storm General Manager. “She brings an ability to spread the floor and flow within our offensive systems and defensively, her high activity level and instincts provide great impact to our team. We are looking forward to Steph’s second year with the Storm.”
During the 2021 season, Talbot scored her 500th career point during 13-point fourth quarter at Atlanta on June 9. Just a few days prior, she scored a season-high 21 points in a home game against Dallas on June 4, connecting on 8-of-12 from the field including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
The Seattle Storm opens the 2022 season on Friday, May 6, hosting the Minnesota Lynx in its return home, playing its first full season in Seattle since 2018 at the newly renovated Climate Pledge Arena. Tickets are available at http://ticketcentral.seattlestormbasketball.com.
