The Los Angeles Sparks announced today the signing of WNBA Champion Azurá Stevens. Stevens enters her sixth season in the league after stops in both Dallas and Chicago.

“I am beyond excited to be joining the Los Angeles Sparks,” said Stevens. “The plan that KB & Curt are putting together for this team & organization is special and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. I can’t wait to get to LA & get to work!”

Stevens holds career averages of 9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks in 121 total games in two seasons with the Wings and three seasons with the Sky. During her time in Dallas, she contributed 8.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks in 43 games (10 starts). In her next three seasons with the Sky, she tallied 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 78 total games, helping the Sky to a WNBA Championship in 2021.

“Azurá was our number one free agent target,” said Sparks CAO & GM Karen Bryant. “She is already a WNBA champion and is just entering the prime of her career. We are thrilled that she chose the Sparks as her new team and LA as her new home.”

The 6-6, Rhode Island native was drafted sixth overall in the 2018 WNBA Draft by Dallas Wings out of the University of Connecticut. In her first WNBA season, she played in 34 games (nine starts) finishing the season earning All-WNBA Rookie Team honors. She held averages of 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks in 20.6 minutes per game.

“Z is a rising star in our league and a tremendous teammate,” said Head Coach Curt Miller. “At 6-foot-6, she has outstanding versatility to play effectively on the inside and on the perimeter. She is a fantastic addition to the Sparks.”
