Three-time All-WNBA First Team selection and W25 honoree re-signs with Seattle
The Seattle Storm today announced two-time WNBA Champion, two-time WNBA Finals MVP and 2018 WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart has re-signed with the team. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Stewie is the best player in the world and having her on our team means we will always be in the mix to compete for another championship,” said Noelle Quinn, Storm Head Coach. “She takes great pride in her preparation, elevates everyone’s level of play and most importantly just wants to win.”
Stewart, who last season was selected to “The W25” as one of the 25 greatest and most influential players in league history, is the only player in WNBA history with career averages of at least 20.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. During the 2021 season, she became the fastest player to record 2,500 points and 1,000 rebounds, reaching the mark in her 125th career game, and needs 18 points to become the second-fastest player to reach the 3,000-point plateau.
“I’m excited to be back with my team to fight for another Championship and to play at Climate Pledge Arena,” said Stewart. “We have unfinished business and we’re all ready to get to work.”
Stewart, the Storm’s No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft, averaged 20.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 blocks per game in 2021. During the year, she became the first WNBA Commissioner’s Cup MVP, scoring 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting while adding four rebounds, four steals, three blocks and three assists. Stewart recorded two of the top three individual scoring efforts in the league last year, tallying 36 points at Dallas on May 22, and 35 points at Las Vegas on June 27.

In five seasons with the Storm, Stewart has appeared in 149 games with Seattle posting a 94-55 record over that stretch including a 63-19 mark since 2018. The Storm have won two of its four WNBA Championships with Stewart on the squad (2018, 2020) with Stewart earning WNBA Finals MVP honors in both seasons. She also was named the 2018 WNBA MVP after posting a career-best of 21.8 points per game—second-best in franchise history.
The Seattle Storm opens the 2022 season on Friday, May 6, hosting the Minnesota Lynx in its return home, playing its first full season in Seattle since 2018 at the newly renovated Climate Pledge Arena. Tickets are available at http://ticketcentral.seattlestormbasketball.com.
