Wendell Carter Jr.’s ‘A Platform Squared Inaugural Basketball Camp’ Provided Campers with Financial Skills to Make It Off The Court

The sports industry has changed tremendously over the past 20 years and today, athletes across all sports have become more knowledgeable in how the world works for them outside of their particular sports craft.

In today’s sports industry, while athletes are playing professionally or building their resumes in high school and college, we see many more athletes engaged in businesses, the media world or other arenas of entertainment.

Orlando Magic star Wendell Carter Jr. is one of the most talented young players in the NBA, yet his performance off the court is what will make him a hall of famer in the hearts and minds of the next generation of rising athletes.

Recently, Wendell Carter Jr. hosted his first annual ‘A Platform Squared Inaugural Basketball Camp’ at his high school Pace Academy in Atlanta, Ga. Although the camp offered the components of sports and athletics, Wendell wanted to offer his young camper a chance to learn what the business side of the sports world looks like.

Outside of workout drills and team meetings, ‘A Platform Squared Inaugural Basketball Camp’ also required campers to take a few classes during the day.

Dr. Charles Ross provided campers with a course in African-American Studies. Trey Chapman provided campers with two courses in Financial Literacy.

Wendell Carter Jr. was pleased with his inaugural camp and he is already looking forward to what he will do with the camp next year. Check out our TheseUrbanTimes recap of ‘A Platform Squared Inaugural Basketball Camp’.
