Terrell Thomas’ Top 5 NBA MVP Candidates Heading into the 2021-22 NBA Season

The 75th anniversary of the NBA begins tonight as the 2021-22 NBA season tips off with the Milwaukee Bucks hosting the Brooklyn Nets.

This season is set to be one of the biggest seasons the NBA has ever seen. Before things get started, check out my top five 2021-22 NBA candidates.

Terrell Thomas’ Top 5 NBA MVP Candidates

5.) Trae Young: Ok, ok. I know some folks will say I’m bias because I cover the Atlanta Hawks but hear me out. Trae Young’s time is now and if you were just introduced to Young’s stardom during the 2021 playoffs, bucket up. The fun has just begun.I expect Trae Young to average a double-double somewhere around 26 points and 12 assist per game. If Young can lead the Hawks to a top 4 seed in the eastern conference, I expect Young’s name is be in the mix for the 2021-22 NBA MVP Award.

4.) Luka Doncic: There is no surprise to many that Luka’s name is here. The Dallas Mavericks superstar has a new head coach in Jason Kidd, and I believe that will help Luka’s growth immediately. Doncic is a walking triple-double and he can score from anywhere on the court. Jason Kidd’s leadership will be key but I expect the Mavs to finish as a top 5 seed in the western conference. Luka will however be in the MVP mix as he’ll flirt with averaging a triple-double this season.

3.) Joel Embiid: Despite the drama surrounding the Sixers to start the season, I believe this will be Sixers big man Joel Embiid’s best season yet. The addition of Andre Drummond will shake things up for Philly and that will help Embiid. I expect the Sixers to be a top 3 seed in the eastern conference with or without Ben Simmons.

2.) Steph Curry: Chef Curry is ready to cook this season. The Golden State Warriors are my favorites to win the west. Yes, you read that correctly. I believe former NBA MVP Stephen Curry has a great team around him that fix his skills very well. I believe Steph will lead the Warriors to a top 3 seed in western conference while averaging 31 points per night.

1.) Kevin Durant: If you ask me, Kevin Durant is currently the best player in the NBA and I believe he will display that this season. A lot of attention has been on the Nets during the offseason due to the absences of Nets star Kyrie Irving. With Durant and the Nets set to enter the season as the favorites to win the title in the eyes of many, I expect Durant to embrace that challenge and step up to the plate.

Honorable Mention: Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks), Jayson Tatum (Celtics), LaMelo Ball (Hornets)
