Pelicans Fire Former HC Alvin Gentry

Well damn! I can honestly say I did not see this one coming. I guess not making the 2020 postseason was too much for the brass of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Saturday afternoon the New Orleans Pelicans announced that Alvin Gentry has been fired as the Pelicans head coach. The move comes following a disappointing showing by the Pelicans in the NBA Bubble.

Gentry had one year remaining on his contract. The Pelicans were looking to get in the NBA playoffs but they fell out of contention earlier in the week, sealing their season. The Pelicans finished in 13th place in the western conference with a record of (30-42). In Gentry’s five seasons with the Pelicans his record was (175-225).

The Pelicans will now join the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls in the search for a new head coach. With a young roster highlighted by Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, the Pelicans may look at targeting a young coach as such Jason Kidd or Ty Lue.

It will be interesting to see the direction Pelicans GM David Griffin will look to take this team.
