Hawks Cruise To (113-87) Opening Night Victory Against the Dallas Mavericks

The Atlanta Hawks made a splash during the 2021 NBA postseason and they are looking to keep that ship sailing this year.

On Thursday October 21st, the Atlanta Hawks tipped off the 2021-22 season at home against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks at State Farm Arena.

Both the Hawks and Mavericks struggled shooting to begin the game. Neither team could get going offensively in the first quarter. Atlanta Hawks all-star Trae Young was scoreless to begin the game. Young couldn’t find his shot in the first quarter. That changed in the second half.

With Jason Kidd making his Dallas Mavericks coaching debut, the Mavericks haven’t seemed to have picked up on his scheme yet. Dallas looked confused on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

The Hawks however looked like a completely different team in the second half. Trae Young’s shot begin to fall and Hawks forward/guard Cam Reddish had an offensive coming out party.

The Hawks were able to hold the lead in the second half and they walked away with a (113-87) victory against Dallas. Hawks star Trae Young finished the night with 19 points and 14 assist. Cam Reddish finished the game with 20 points.

For the Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic finished the night with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assist. Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson finished the night with 17 points.

The season is still early but the Hawks looked polished and focused to start the 2021-22 season. The Atlanta Hawks will look to keep things going as they head to Cleveland on Saturday (Oct. 23rd) to face the Cleveland Cavs.

The Atlanta Hawks return home to State Farm Arena on Monday, October 25th as they host the Detroit Pistons.
