The NBA has announced that 76ers center Joel Embiid has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played between Monday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 13. This marks the eighth career Player of the Week honor for the seven-year veteran, good for the second most in franchise history (Iverson – 20).
In four games played throughout the week – including home victories against Phoenix, Atlanta, and Utah – Embiid produced 40.0 points on .543 shooting, 11.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.8 blocks. He joins Michael Jordan as the only NBA players to average 40.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks over a four-game span since blocks were first tracked in 1973-74.
Embiid capped off the week with a career night against the Jazz on Sunday, Nov. 13. He scored a career-high 59 points (19-28 FG) to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists, and seven blocks in 37 minutes, becoming the first player in NBA history to record such totals in a single game since blocked shots became a statistic.
His 59 points represented the highest scoring output of any NBA player in 2022-23, and ranks fifth on the 76ers franchise single-game scoring ledger.
Less than 24 hours prior to his career night, the Cameroon-native posted 42 points on 14-of-25 shooting, 10 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks, marking the fourth time in franchise history that a player tallied 101-plus points over any two-game span (two-Wilt Chamberlain, one-Allen Iverson). Embiid has reached the 25-point mark in each of his last eight games from Oct. 22 to Nov. 13, good for the second-longest active streak in the NBA.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry was named Western Conference Player of the Week.
