Montgomery to be Co-Owner of FCF Beasts with Super Bowl Champion Marshawn Lynch and Pro-Wrestling Superstar Miro
Fan Controlled Football (FCF), the only professional sports league that empowers fans to call the plays in real-time, today announced that two-time WNBA Champion Renee Montgomery has become the first female owner of the FCF.
Montgomery, who last played for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream during the 2019 season and won WNBA championships with the Minnesota Lynx in 2015 and 2017, will be a co-owner of the Beasts joining Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch and pro-wrestling superstar Miro.
The Beasts are one of the four teams playing in the FCF’s inaugural season, which is set to debut on Feb. 13 with games airing live on Twitch. The league’s three additional teams and owners include:
● Glacier Boyz: Hip-hop mogul Quavo, Super Bowl champion Richard Sherman, and YouTube sensation Deestroying.
● Wild Aces: Greg Miller of Kinda Funny, Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler.
● Zappers: New York Mets pitcher Trevor May, and sportscaster Bob Menery.
“I have always been a big football fan, and now to have this opportunity to be the first female owner in the FCF during their inaugural season is incredible,” said Montgomery. “I look forward to working with my fellow owners and all our fans to bring the FCF title to the Beasts.”
The FCF, which combines the passion and competitiveness of live and fantasy sports with the interactivity of video games, is the first league in professional sports history where fans will get to call all the shots, from branding and personnel decisions to real-time play calling.

Renee embodies that attitude, and we are thrilled to have her join the FCF as our first female owner.”
Built for the digital audience, FCF’s live games will be held at the league’s state-of-the-art facility in Atlanta. Each game will be 60 minutes in length and live streamed on Twitch. FCF teams will be stacked with professional players from the CFL, XFL, and IFL, along with NCAA Division I and II programs playing a fast-paced, high-scoring 7-vs-7 style of football on a 50-yard x 35-yard field with 10-yard end zones.
Montgomery was selected 4th overall by Minnesota in the 2009 WNBA Draft after a four-year career at the University of Connecticut that included winning a national championship her senior year. During her 11 years in the WNBA Montgomery has played in 364 total games for Minnesota, Connecticut, Seattle, and Atlanta, and was a WNBA All-Star in 2011 and the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year in 2012.
She is currently in her first season as a studio analyst for the Atlanta Hawks LIVE on FOX Sports Southeast. She is known as a leader on the basketball court as well as off the court for her social activism and efforts involving voting registration. She sat out the 2020 WNBA season, due to the social climate to focus on social justice.
