Eagles Defense Awful In Loss To Giants

Story Written By Rob Whitney

The Philadelphia Eagles made their way to the Meadowlands on Sunday to take on the New York Giants. A win could put a strangle hold on the weakest division in football and push Philly that much closer to a playoff birth.

The Eagles got ran over by the Giants in the first quarter. New York racked up 92 yards on the ground in the first 15 minutes of play. The result, a quick 7-0 lead. Philly would put a decent drive together but could only manage a field goal. And at the end of one the Birds would trail 7-3.

The second quarter started the same as the first. The Giants continued to run the ball down the Eagles throats and would take a 14-3 lead with a touchdown run on 4th and short from the 2 yard line. An Eagles drive that started at their own 6 had promise, but eventually ended in a punt. The two teams would trade stops for the remainder of the half and New York would go into the half with the double digit lead 14-3.

Carson Wentz and company got the ball to start the second half and wasted no time. Wentz connected on his first few passes, and Boston Scott broke off a long run for a score. Miles Sanders would add a two point conversion and narrow the lead to just three. However, the Eagles defense continued to do absolutely nothing and allowed the Giants to march up the field in minutes and score a touchdown to push the lead back to 10. But Philly would not quit and answered right back with another score of their own. The two point conversion this time however, was no good. And that’s how the quarter would end, with Philly trailing 21-17

The Eagles started the fourth quarter with a crucial stop on defense, giving themselves a chance to take their first lead of the game. But another poor snap torpedoed the drive and forced a punt. The Giants would get back to back field goals after stopping the Eagles on consecutive drives and hold a 10 point lead with a little over thee minutes to play. The Eagles failed to convert on fourth and long on their ensuing possession and that would do it. The Giants pick up the win.

Final Score New York 27 Philadelphia 17
